The Wissensstiftung in brief

The video below features members of the Executive Board and Board of Trustees providing a more detailed presentation of the Wissensstiftung. Their presentation also includes impressions of the knowledge hackathon on Design and Sustainability, which the Wissensstiftung organised with the German Design Day in Berlin on 14 December 2023.

About us

Saving our planet is no mean task. But with the right knowledge, things should at least be a little bit easier. This is exactly where the Wissensstiftung comes in, with concise information that’s easy to understand, without nonsense. Instead of delving deeper and deeper into tiny details or reinventing the wheel, we offer knowledge-to-go that can be put to immediate use – shared and donated by experts, validated by experts.

Our philosophy

Sustainability – or to be more specific: climate protection – has been on the public radar for a number of years now. It’s a bit of a buzzword, but it’s spawned a variety of new labels and certificates that allow people to signal openly that they want to make a difference and act sustainably.

Coming at this from a different angle, the Wissensstiftung disseminates knowledge based on practical application, validated standards and curated know-how, revolving around a selection of current issues, completely free of charge. All of this know-how can be accessed directly and requires no previous experience in this area. In fact, in no more than two hours not only can you familiarise yourself with these topics, but you’ll also be in a position to start using that knowledge. The idea is that the knowledge we share is available when it’s needed most, so people can integrate insights into their projects straight away.

In keeping with the open source philosophy, the Wissensstiftung has also set itself the goal of motivating individuals, companies and other organisations to share their knowledge and experience openly with others.

Our strategy

The Wissensstiftung aims to establish itself as a central platform for a whole host of solutions to sustainability issues. It promotes, fosters and encourages discourse, highlights conflicting interests, offers answers and provides access to solutions and practical tools. Through its agile and dynamic approach to working with others, this makes sustainability both tangible and implementable with the support of experts. As a foundation, a distinguishing feature compared to other sustainability platforms is that we continuously evolve and move forward. This understanding – that the topic of sustainability is a process and never stands still – is central to our DNA.

Executive Board

The Wissensstiftung is chaired by Dr Christine Lemaitre and Hans Dieterle, both of whom are driven by the same question: why is it so difficult for so many people to recognise and leverage the benefits of sustainability and climate protection in building and beyond?

Board (of trustees)

The Wissensstiftung is supported by 14 experts, all of whom take a strict regard to the implementation of sustainable building practices in a professional context. Drawing on a diversity of specialist disciplines, they have created a platform that is not only ideal for newcomers to sustainable building but is also extremely useful for experts with experience in this field.

Knoweldge donors and partners

Sharing and imparting knowledge – whether through what we call knowledge nuggets or events – has only been made possible thanks to our partners and the experts who have decided to make their knowledge available to us.
